If you have a private water supply to your home or business, you will need to protect the pump-house and particularly the water pump itself, from the severe effects of frost damage.
The record low temperatures which have gripped the country over the last number of days are set to continue and we’re not even into December yet!
Cantwell Quality Water Services Ltd. supply and install a device known as a “Frost Watcher”. These appliances vary in capabilities and set-up. They are generally fitted in the pump-house, within close proximity to the water pump itself. The “Frost Watcher” is then activated once the temperature drops below a certain level, or they can be operated manually.
All that is required in order to install your ‘Frost Watcher’ is a standard electrical socket.

How does the “Frost Watcher” actually work:
Hi Henry,
Thank you for your enquiry. The Frost Watcher is a very simple and cost effective device. Other than the appliance itself, all you require is a standard 3-pin electric socket. You plug in your frost watcher and set the thermostat on the device to the temperature at which you wish the frost watcher to activate (ideally set at 1 or 0.5 degree Celsius).
When the temperature within your pump house drops below the thermostat set level, the frost watcher will switch on and the elements will generate heat. This in turn helps to keep the temperature in this area above freezing, thus protecting your pump and the pipework itself. Once the Frost Watcher brings the temperature back up to a few degrees above 0, it will automatically switch off and will only re-activate once the temperature drops again below the set thermostat level.

There is no noise generated from the frost watcher as there is no moving parts in the heater.
